The Sound Source marked the five year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with a commemoration and determination at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in Treme. It was called Katrina V.
Music and Mardi Gras Indians marked the opening of the Katrina commemoration as three thousand people packed the Mahailia Jackson Theater for an interfaith ceremony to remember and reflect the events of Hurricane Katrina five years ago today.
In conjunction with the technical staff of the Theater, we provided all of the audio and video equipment, as well as developing all of the content to be shown on the 20′ x 30′ video screen throughout the event. The theater staff provided the lighting equipment, as well as some of the rigging components.
Originally scheduled to be in front of Jackson Square and the St. Louis Cathedral, the call was made to initiate the ‘rain plan’ at 6am the day of the event. We had already had the staging in place, as well as the generators. Dolph Federico of Pelican Events did an awesome job getting the stage in front of the gates of Jackson Square, only to have to remove it once the call to move came. You can see pictures of that on his Facebook page. Here is the link: Pelican Event’s Facebook Page
Our crews then unloaded and reloaded the trucks for the event to be held inside. We provided equipment from JBL, AKG, Analog Way, and Sanyo….as well as the standard fare of backline.
Everything went great and all were happy. Even the press seemed happy with the press mult feeds: quiet and clean!!! See video here:
Thanks to everyone who helped us throughout the day. Especially Scott Stewart w/ the Mahalia Jackson Theater, Dottie Belletto with NOCCI, and Dolph Federico at Pelican Events.
