St. Bernard Parish Schools “Day of Reflection” Breakfast

Mrs. Laura Bush was the featured guest of the St. Bernard Parish public school district’s annual “Day of Reflection” breakfast to commemorate Hurricane Katrina. This Sunday marks the fifth anniversary of the deadly storm, which crushed the area’s levees and filled St. Bernard Parish with floodwaters.

The St. Bernard Parish School Board has long been a valued client of The Sound Source.  We were tapped right after Katrina to provide a small sound system for this new event.  Keep in mind, there were only 400 kids in the whole school district at that time so it was not a big event by any means.  We have provided audio and lighting support every year since.

This year more than 600 people gathered for the school district’s fifth annual program, which featured a multimedia presentation that showcased the district’s recovery.  As the event grew over the past five years, so did it’s technical requirements.  We provided all of the audio and lighting for the event.  Mr. Charles Cassar of the School Board handled all of the drape, as well as the floral decor.

TSS also provided the plexiglass lecterns for the event.  We purchased additional units because all of our existing units were booked on other Katrina related events throughout the city.

As you can see from the pictures, this is no small school breakfast.  This event has grown into the event of the year in the Parish.  Attendees this year included Mrs. Laura Bush (the keynote speaker), Sen. David Vitter, Sen. Mary Landrieu, Rep. Charlie Melancon, Sheriff Jack Stephens, Pres. Craig Taffaro, Fr. John Arnone, as well as many other notables from St. Bernard Parish.   Chalmette High’s Concert Band also performed, as well as the School Chorus.

Equipment provided for the event included JBL VRX speaker systems, Midas audio consoles, AKG Wireless microphones, ETC lighting fixtures, ETC Dimming, and Chauvet LED lighting fixtures.  Rigging was Tomcat trussing, CM Hoists w/Motion Lab control, and Genie Supertowers.
